Eight people were detained during the first day of the road safety campaign “Viaje Sem Pressa” after GNR and PSP carried out targeted checks in the Lisbon metropolitan area. The operation, part of the Plano Nacional de Fiscalização (PNF), involved two actions of awareness and enforcement. One took place at the Carcavelos toll in the direction of Lisbon-Cascais, where two people were detained for disobedience and for lack of legal driving authorization. A second action ran at the north access to the Ponte 25 de Abril, in the direction of Lisbon-Almada. There, six people were detained for alleged driving under the influence of alcohol, lack of legal authorization to drive, speculation and disobedience. In Carcavelos, authorities inspected 56 vehicles and recorded 35 infractions for speeding and 16 for missing or problematic items including documents, tyres, driving titles and lighting. At the Ponte 25 de Abril access, officers checked 185 vehicles and logged one speeding infraction, along with 38 cases involving issues such as missing high-visibility vest, warning triangle, fire extinguisher, Inspeção Periódica Obrigatória status, documents and insurance, as well as serious and very serious alcohol-related driving and other breaches including crossing a continuous line and exceeding capacity. The campaign is the tenth of 11 planned this year and runs until 19 October.
