Police in Vranov nad Topľou accused three people of election corruption linked to the 24 October municipal elections. Two of the suspects were detained directly at the time of an alleged bribe handover at a parking lot in front of a shopping centre. Police then arrested a third person shortly afterwards. The case began after a criminal complaint filed on 23 October by a candidate for the municipal council. Investigators said the candidate reported that those suspects demanded a bribe in exchange for securing votes in his favour. Officers from the Criminal Police Unit of the Prešov Regional Police Directorate, the Emergency Police Unit in Prešov, and the Special Police Operations unit of the Eastern Police Presidium worked with prosecutors at the Prešov Regional Prosecution Office. On 25 October 2026, all three people were charged with the offence of election corruption committed as co-perpetrators. Police did not provide additional details while the investigation is ongoing. The investigation continues after the charges were filed, and the three accused remain in the case as it proceeds.
