Police in Ericeira seize €9,225 and weapons after drug arrests
Two men were detained after GNR raids uncovered cannabis, cocaine and explosives.
GNR arrested two men in Ericeira after a months-long probe into alleged drug trafficking that also involved weapons and explosives, police said.
The arrests were made on Thursday last week in Ericeira, in the municipality of Mafra. Investigators had been working on the case for about six months, during which they said the suspects distributed and sold drugs to consumers and others connected to trafficking in Ericeira and Encarnação, as well as in Torres Vedras.
Police launched an operation that involved two home search warrants and seven non-home searches. The raids led to the detention of the suspects and the seizure of cash, drugs and military-style items.
GNR said they found 9,225 euros in cash and 484 grams of a solid substance, with its composition pending lab analysis. Officers also seized 206 doses of hashish and two doses of cocaine.
The haul included 375 rounds of ammunition of different calibres, six cutting knives and five sabres, four cannabis plants, and four precision scales. Police also seized three mobile phones.
Weapons and explosives were also among the findings, including two grenades, one offensive and one defensive, both with explosive charge, two carbines and a 9 mm loaded pistol, plus a revolver and a telescopic baton. Officers also found a vacuum packaging machine.
The two men, aged 51 and 55, were made defendants in the case and brought before a first judicial hearing at Sintra District Court. One was placed in pre-trial detention, while the other was ordered to attend weekly reporting appointments.
