French and Italian authorities have continued an investigation into a money laundering network that, according to investigators, used gold bars to process profits from drug trafficking. The case began with an earlier operation in which EUR 30 million in criminal assets was seized. Building on that work, prosecutors and investigators carried out further actions that led to an additional seizure of assets worth EUR 1 million. The new confiscations were conducted under coordination involving Eurojust and Europol, together with Kosovar authorities. The operation forms part of the ongoing cross-border investigation into how proceeds from drug trafficking were laundered using gold bars. Eurojust said the authorities involved in the probe worked together to target the criminal assets linked to the network. The seizures are presented as part of the operational steps taken while the investigation continues. The case concerns suspected money laundering activity and the tracing of assets connected to drug trafficking profits. At this stage, the information released focuses on the international coordination and the amounts seized, rather than on specific individuals or court outcomes.
