Europol marks International Day of Police Cooperation to strengthen cross-border policing
The EU agency says linking investigators, expertise and information across national borders is key to tackling serious threats.
Europol is marking the International Day of Police Cooperation on 7 September with partners to highlight the importance of its network in addressing serious threats to the European Union’s internal security.
The agency said the effectiveness of law enforcement depends on connections that allow investigators to work together across borders. Europol focuses on linking national investigators, expertise and information, so police can respond more effectively to major risks.
Europol noted that cross-border cooperation helps ensure information and know-how can be shared where it is needed most. When those connections are strong, it said, law enforcement is better placed to carry out investigations and respond to threats facing the EU.
The event is presented by Europol as a recognition of the central role that police cooperation networks play in tackling serious challenges to internal security. The agency’s message centres on cooperation between partners, and on the value of international information and expertise being connected across national boundaries.
