Europol and partners have carried out a coordinated Referral Action Day targeting violent extremist and terrorist live action role-playing, or LARPing, in online gaming environments. Europol’s European Union Internet Referral Unit, EU IRU, teamed up with Spain for the operation, which involved specialised units from 16 countries. The action focused on online gaming spaces where role-playing content can be used to promote or portray violent extremist and terrorist material. By coordinating referrals, participating units aimed to disrupt that activity across the online environment. The operation’s latest status is that the Referral Action Day has been completed as part of the EU IRU’s coordinated efforts.
