Carabinieri arrest man for fake online invoice fraud in Alto Tammaro
Over 13,000 euros paid after an email invoice, police say.
Carabinieri police arrested a man connected to an alleged online “fake invoice” fraud after a woman paid more than 13,000 euros following an email invoice tied to alleged home renovation work.
The case was reported when, after the work was completed, the victim received contact from the company’s administrative offices asking why the bill had not been settled.
Investigators established that the invoice sent by email was a forged copy. The document pointed to an Italian bank account said to be linked to the suspect, and police later found that he also had access to another, foreign bank account where part of the money was moved.
Carabinieri said they carried out checks on the spot at the request of the judicial authorities in Savona. During the operation, police also seized two mobile phones found with banking documents. The items were handed over to court-appointed consultants to support the case.
The arrest came after an investigation coordinated by the Carabinieri station in Colle Sannita, under the San Bartolomeo in Galdo command, with collaboration from Carabinieri in Savona, and under direction from the prosecutor’s office at the Court of Savona. A judge for preliminary investigations ordered pre-trial detention in prison.
The accused man was taken to the Benevento remand prison. Police said investigations continue to identify any possible accomplices. The suspect is accused of aggravated fraud committed using computer and telematic tools deemed capable of hindering identification of the person responsible.
