A 35-year-old man was detained after he allegedly pretended to be a traffic police officer and stopped a driver for checks in Lugoj. Police say the incident happened in early October on Strada Caransebeșului in Lugoj. The man allegedly told the driver he was on patrol, asked for personal documents and vehicle documents, and referenced an issue with one of the car’s stop lights. After the driver fixed the problem, the man reportedly returned the documents. Police say the suspect then claimed he would apply a large fine without handing over any written justification, which caused the driver to feel afraid. Officers later identified the man and opened a criminal case for impersonating an official. The detention was ordered for 24 hours, and the investigation continues under a prosecutor from the Public Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Lugoj court. All allegations are still being verified as the case proceeds.
