The FBI says it arrested nine suspects in Nigeria as part of its Operation Blackout crackdown on “Yahoo Boys” involved in internet fraud. FBI boss Kash Patel made the disclosure on Sunday, saying the latest operation delivered 9 arrests, 53 electronic devices seized, and $11 million in potentially freezeable funds identified across multiple countries. Patel said Operation Blackout targets international cybercriminal networks believed to be stealing billions from Americans. He posted a graphic showing the operation and warned that scam centres operate across borders while exploiting “innocent victims.” Nigeria-based suspects Mudasiru Afeez Olawale and Adebola Festus Adekunle were featured in the FBI’s report published on Thursday. Both were arrested and extradited in August, and appeared in the flyer for the global crackdown posted by Patel. The FBI said it worked with Nigerian law enforcement and partners in London to carry out the arrests. Patel said the case is focused on criminals targeting Americans from overseas, and that “justice will find you.”
