FBI returns accused $600,000 SNAP fraudster Manjit Bedi after India arrest
Manjit Singh Bedi was wanted for an alleged Tacoma scheme involving EBT cards.
The FBI has returned Manjit Singh Bedi to the United States after he was arrested in India over an alleged $600,000 SNAP benefits fraud scheme.
FBI Director Kash Patel announced the return, saying Bedi had been one of the FBI’s Most Wanted fraudsters. Authorities accused him of stealing more than $600,000 through alleged fraud at an Asian grocery store in Tacoma, Washington, between March 2024 and June 2025.
Federal officials said the alleged scheme involved SNAP Electronic Benefit Transfer, or EBT, cards. Prosecutors accuse Bedi of swiping recipients’ cards, giving cash instead of eligible food purchases, and keeping roughly half of the benefits for himself.
After Bedi was indicted, he allegedly fled the United States and drove to Canada before heading to India. An arrest warrant was issued over alleged violations of the conditions of his release.
Patel said the FBI’s case was one of multiple high-value returns achieved through foreign law enforcement partnerships, announcing 260 extraditions and removals over the past 20 months. Bedi is now back in the U.S. following the India arrest, as the federal SNAP and wire fraud case continues.
