Moroccan authorities arrested a 22-year-old Swedish national wanted internationally in Agadir on October 13, the fifth arrest of a Swedish suspect in Morocco in one month. The suspect was taken in the Talborjt neighborhood after Moroccan security services received information from Sweden’s DGST, Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security said. Interpol checks confirmed an international arrest warrant and a Red Notice requested by Swedish judicial authorities. Sweden is seeking to enforce a prison sentence tied to cases involving drug trafficking, attempted murder, and participation in a criminal gang, according to the DGSN. Following instructions from the public prosecutor’s office, Moroccan authorities placed the man under extradition procedures. Morocco’s National Central Bureau of Interpol in Rabat notified its Swedish counterpart of the arrest. Swedish National Police Commissioner Petra Lundh thanked Moroccan security services for their cooperation as the case joins other recent operations involving Swedish nationals suspected of serious crimes. In September, Moroccan authorities arrested several Swedish nationals wanted over attempted murder, drug trafficking and weapons-related offenses, and Swedish authorities announced the extradition of two Swedish nationals from Morocco suspected of key roles in major drug-trafficking networks. The arrest comes amid closer security ties between Sweden and Morocco, including a memorandum signed in April to strengthen cooperation between Morocco’s DGST and Sweden’s National Police, aimed at improving information sharing and coordination against organized crime and other cross-border offenses.
