He is accused of assigning funds taken from two companies during 2026.
A police operation in Vratsa led to the arrest of an accountant suspected of misappropriating 450,000 euros belonging to two companies.
Authorities with the Sector “Countering Economic Crime” at the Vratsa Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior said the alleged abuse happened over a relatively short period in 2026.
Investigators uncovered indications of unlawful taking of money from both firms, with the total amount reaching 450,000 euros. The case was discovered after multiple operational and procedural investigative actions.
In the course of the probe, the accountant was detained for 24 hours. Police did not release his identity or age and did not name the two companies.
A pre-trial investigation has been opened for embezzlement in office. The charge concerns a public role where a person allegedly improperly appropriated funds entrusted to them for management or storage. Bulgarian law provides for up to eight years in prison for such an offence, and the court may also order confiscation of property and ban the person from holding certain posts or working in a specific profession.
The investigation is ongoing.
