Police arrest 4 Israeli football club officials in major fraud probe
Suspected systematic fraud, money laundering, tax offences over four seasons.
Four officials from an Israeli Premier League football club were arrested Sunday on suspicion of systematic fraud, money laundering, tax offences and related economic crimes spanning four seasons, Israeli police said.
The allegations include obtaining benefits by fraud, false entries in corporate records and forgery, alongside violations of income tax, National Insurance and workers’ pay laws. Investigators estimate the suspected scale at tens of millions of shekels, covering work carried out over a number of years.
The probe was run by the National Unit for Combating Economic Crime within the Lahav 433 major crimes division, specifically its Sports Bribery and Gambling unit. It was conducted jointly with the Israel Football Association, the Tax Authority’s specialized economic crimes unit, the National Insurance Institute and the Registrar of Non-Profit Organizations.
After months of undercover work, the case moved to overt action with the arrests and the seizure of luxury vehicles and real estate. Hebrew media identified the suspects as current and former owners and board members linked to Ironi Tiberias FC, with police saying the club itself has not been named in official statements.
Police said they plan to summon dozens of the team’s current and former players for questioning in the coming days. Chief Superintendent Yariv Feinberg said officers had arrested four central suspects believed to be the main perpetrators and vowed to act with determination. Attorney Adi Carmeli criticized how the case was handled, saying police published details in the media before the detainees even arrived at the Lahav site.
The investigation is ongoing, with no charges or court outcome reported in the available information.
