Accused of assaulting two Gardaí allowed back to live in Galway
Judge Fiona Lydon varied bail for Jihad Rakibi, remanding him to appear again on November 11.
A man accused of assaulting two Gardaí was allowed to return to live in Galway after a bail ruling at Galway District Court.
Jihad Rakibi, 32, is charged with assaulting Garda Cian O'Boyle and Garda Aaron Kinsella and with obstructing a peace officer in Eyre Square last month.
The court heard that Rakibi has been living at an International Protection Accommodation Service, IPAS, centre in Dublin but that accommodation was no longer available to him. His solicitor, Michael Cunningham, said Rakibi has friends in Galway and prospects of a place to stay.
Sergeant Joanne McGhee said there was no objection to the move, but Rakibi must keep to other bail conditions, including staying away from Renmore.
Judge Fiona Lydon granted the application to vary bail, warning the accused not to come to any negative attention. The judge also told Rakibi that people who allegedly assault Gardaí are not welcome in Galway.
Rakibi faces one charge of willfully obstructing Garda O'Boyle, contrary to section 19 of the Public Order Act, and two charges of assault, contrary to section 2 of the Non Fatal Offences Against The Person Act.
He was remanded on bail and must return to court on November 11.
