Gardaí investigate fatal Tralee stabbing after alleged snoring row
A man died and another was injured, while a suspect is detained in Kerry.
A man has died after an assault at an International Protection Accommodation Services (IPAS) centre in Tralee, Co Kerry, with gardaí investigating a possible link to an earlier dispute over loud snoring.
The victim was found with serious injuries and pronounced deceased shortly after the incident, which happened shortly after 5.20am on Saturday.
A second man, aged in his 40s, also suffered injuries and was taken to University Hospital Kerry. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Gardaí arrested a third man, also in his late 40s, at the scene and detained him at a Garda station in Co Kerry. The scene is being preserved for forensic and technical examination, and a postmortem examination will be arranged.
Local officials urged people to avoid spreading rumours or unverified information online as the investigation continues. Tralee Mayor Angie Baily said information should be passed through the proper channels to Gardaí.
Gardaí say they are keeping an open mind, but one line of inquiry is that the stabbing occurred after a row over loud snoring.
The criminal investigation is under way. The arrested man remains detained as gardaí appeal for anyone with information to contact Tralee Garda Station or the Garda Confidential Line.
