Gardaí raid Kirk Loco’s home in Bray over a tweet
Half a dozen officers seized his devices in a dawn search as he goes on trial in district court.
A dawn raid on Kirk Loco’s home is being heard in a Bray court, with the case hinging on a single tweet.
Kirk Loco is on trial in Ireland over an online post made after he warned his community that a man had exposed himself near a 14-year-old girl on a public bus. He is accused of sending a threatening or grossly offensive communication, after earlier police action for a false report allegation.
A Garda sergeant told the court that half a dozen officers arrived at Kirk’s home at 6:30 a.m. with a search warrant. Officers seized his devices and arrested him over the tweet.
The court heard police never took a statement from the girl. The prosecution also told the court they took a statement from the man on the bus, who it referred to as the injured party, saying the tweet caused him stress.
Kirk was arrested for knowingly making a false report, but the charge now before the court is focused on the tweet’s wording. The trial heard that Kirk checked his story with the girl’s family before he posted it.
When the girl took the stand, she described a drunk man with his shirt lifted and his belt open. On cross-examination, the prosecutor played bus CCTV and told her she looked happy enough.
The trial resumes Thursday, Oct. 29, when Kirk is expected to testify, after a hearing in Bray District Court.
