Bulmetals owner arrested after GDBOP tracker raid in Gurково
Police and Sofia’s Interior Directorate detained Kolyо Atanasov for 24 hours.
The owner of the “Bulmetals” plant in Gurково, Kolyо Atanasov, was arrested for 24 hours after a major operation by the GDBOP and the Sofia City Police, Bulgaria’s Tribune.bg reported.
Police teams blocked the company’s production site and carried out searches at the businessman’s home, where authorities reportedly spent hours conducting searches and seizures.
Investigators’ main working theory is illegal tracking. Officers on site looked for tracking devices, known as trackers, suspected to have been used to monitor specific people. It was not yet clear who was allegedly being followed or how the devices were directly linked to Atanasov.
An unofficial second version circulating around the operation claims it may be connected to a suspected attempt on the life of a former mayor of Gurково, allegedly carried out a day before the police action. No institutions confirmed that incident and no charges were reported as formally brought against the detained businessman.
Tribune.bg also noted that teams from the Sofia police took part in the operation in Stara Zagora Province. The searches and equipment seizures disrupted work at the plant, which employs hundreds of workers and produces goods for export.
Atanasov remains detained while investigators wait for official information from police and the prosecution on what was found and what evidence led to his arrest.
