A 25-year-old arrested in Gela faces allegations of a failed armed robbery at a jewellery shop in the historic centre. The suspect entered the commercial premises with a pistol. He then threw a bag at the owner and ordered him to fill it with gold. When the shopkeeper said the business did not deal in precious metals, the would-be robber gave up, ran on foot, and disappeared. Agents from Gela’s police commissioner’s office analysed surveillance footage and quickly traced the man’s identity. During a search at his home, police found a DIY weapons lab. Officers seized a reproduction pistol and parts of a firearm that had been deactivated but allegedly modified to regain full offensive capability, along with weapon components, magazines and ammunition. Police also seized technical equipment used to build and modify the weapons, including a 3D printer, a welder and a vertical drill. The 25-year-old was arrested for illegal manufacture and possession of war weapons and ammunition and is under investigation for attempted aggravated robbery.
