A 57-year-old German man detained in the Algarve over suspected drug trafficking will be extradited to Germany, the Lisbon Court of Appeal in Évora confirmed. The Tribunal da Relação de Évora said the suspect told the court he “consents to his handover to the German State” during a hearing on Friday. The tribunal also noted that, despite his consent, he did not give up the “rule of specialty”, meaning he does not accept being called to account for any other case in the requesting country under a European Arrest Warrant. The man was detained on a German judicial warrant. The case traces back to an investigation started in 2022, when authorities in Germany allegedly found he was involved in trafficking hashish in the municipality of Bitz. A later home search reportedly turned up a large quantity of pills, including oxicodone and buprenorphine, in his possession. His extradition process continues following the court’s decision, with the suspect already in custody after his arrest in Portugal.
