German police in Cologne have launched an investigation after two teenagers allegedly controlled a robot that groped a 16-year-old girl near a fast-food outlet. Police said the red-and-gold device approached the girl from behind close to midnight on Saturday, grabbed her buttocks and made thrusting motions before she screamed and moved away. Officers said the robot’s 16-year-old owner and his 19-year-old companion are believed to have streamed the incident live on social media and commented on it. Emergency services were alerted and the pair were found a block away shortly afterwards. Police then confiscated the robot, which had been placed in the back of a car. Officers also seized two mobile phones belonging to the suspects. Investigators are trying to determine whether someone was deliberately controlling the robot’s movements at the time. A photo released by police shows the robot wearing a black moustache, a gold-coloured chain and a white vest. The investigation is ongoing, with police continuing to review how the robot was operated and what footage the suspects posted.
