German police have seized a 1.2m humanoid robot after it allegedly groped a 16-year-old girl outside a fast-food restaurant in Cologne. Police said the android, resembling the comic-book hero Iron Man, approached from behind and touched the teenager’s buttocks before she screamed and moved away. Officers launched an investigation on suspicion of sexual harassment. The incident happened on Saturday night, when the girl was standing outside a fast-food restaurant with two friends. Cologne police confiscated the robot and searched for those responsible. Emergency services were alerted, and the 16-year-old owner of the robot and a 19-year-old companion were found a block away shortly afterwards. The robot was discovered in the back of a car, where the boy had placed it. Along with the robot, police seized two mobile phones belonging to the suspects. Investigators are trying to determine whether someone was deliberately controlling the robot’s movements at the time of the incident. Police also said the suspects allegedly streamed the incident live on social media and commented on it. In a Facebook follow-up post, police warned that some of the online comments around the case can cross the line and, in the worst case, amount to a criminal offense. The case is still under investigation, with officers working to establish who controlled the robot during the alleged attack.
