Gibraltar woman arrested for money laundering linked to drug trafficking
Royal Gibraltar Police raided her home, seizing cash and items tied to criminal property.
A 30-year-old woman in Gibraltar was arrested after Royal Gibraltar Police carried out a raid on her home as part of an international drug trafficking investigation.
Police detained her on suspicion of money laundering and using criminal property, then carried out further arrests following the search.
Detectives from the Economic Crime Unit seized cash and other items of property from the residential property.
The arrest followed intelligence from international partners about a drug trafficking investigation involving several jurisdictions. After the raid, she was further arrested on suspicion of possessing criminal property, which is also treated as money laundering under Gibraltar law.
Gibraltar law makes it an offence to use, or to have possession of, property that represents the proceeds of crime. If convicted, the offences carry penalties of up to 14 years in prison.
Police did not name the woman, state how much cash was taken, or identify which partner countries were involved.
The case comes as part of broader cooperation linked to drug-related money laundering inquiries, including earlier operations reported in Spain that involved arrests connected to alleged laundering for drug trafficking organisations. The Gibraltar arrest was linked to information-sharing under the UK-EU agreement on Gibraltar.
The woman was taken to New Mole House police station for interview, and her investigation status remains ongoing as authorities pursue the matter further.
