GNR detains couple suspected of thefts in Salto, Montalegre
Police found over €4,000 cash, and the suspects were taken to court.
Portuguese GNR detained a couple suspected of multiple thefts in Salto, in the municipality of Montalegre.
The alleged scheme involved breaking into the home of an elderly person in Seara (Salto) and taking a large sum of money. Police say the suspects were intercepted and detained in Frades, Póvoa do Lanhoso after an operation involving several GNR officers.
The case was reported to the Braga command at the end of Friday afternoon. During the operation, the couple was found with more than four thousand euros in cash.
After the detention, the couple was presented to the Tribunal de Valpaços. The court imposed “periodic presentations to the authorities” as the coercive measure for both accused individuals, according to a GNR source in Braga.
The suspects are not convicted in the report and remain under the court-ordered measure following their appearance in Valpaços.
