The Enforcement Directorate has made a sixth arrest in a pan-India digital-arrest fraud and money-laundering case in Goa, tied to alleged transactions worth ₹30,000 crore. Mukesh Kumar Pukhraj Jain, alias Mukesh Bhai, was taken into custody on October 16 and produced before a Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court in Panaji. The court sent him to ED custody until October 19, bringing the total arrests in the case by the ED’s Panaji office to six. Investigators allege Jain acted as an RTGS agent, arranging bank credits into the accounts of a cyber criminal network through brokers in return for a commission. The probe began after a Goa Police FIR was registered on June 9, 2025, alleging that a woman in Goa was duped into transferring ₹2.60 crore between May 21, 2025, and June 2, 2025, after scammers used “digital arrest” calls. In the alleged scheme, fraudsters posed as law enforcement officials, threatening victims on calls and pressuring them to move money online into “secret supervision accounts.” The ED says the stolen money was routed into 400 bank accounts, withdrawn as cash, and then converted into foreign currency through RBI-licensed money changers. The agency says the money trail led to an “inter-connected” network involving commodity, trading, travel and forex entities. ED officials reported banking transactions totalling more than ₹27,850 crore and ₹2,904 crore deposited in cash, including ₹584.70 crore through 61,448 bulk note acceptance machine transactions across multiple locations. They also said the bank accounts of these entities have been linked to 300 cyber fraud complaints and 163 FIRs across 20 states and union territories, with aggregate reported losses of ₹417.49 crore. ED carried out searches in Goa and Mumbai in July and a further round on August 21, seizing about ₹3.25 crore in cash. The ED said shell or dummy companies identified in the probe listed drivers and employees living in single-room accommodations as directors. Jain is currently in ED custody following an October 16 arrest and remains detained until October 19 by order of the PMLA court, as the investigation continues.
