Greece police detained Basketball Federation president Vangelis Liolios after a warrant was issued in a bribery and corruption investigation linked to the sport. Authorities said three people were taken into custody, with arrest orders also issued for a total of six suspects. The probe has been under way for about three months. Police and prosecutors worked jointly in the case that focuses on alleged bribery and corruption involving federation figures and members of the referees community. Liolios was arrested along with Merkez Hakem Kurulu (KED) officials, including former referee Elias Koromilas. According to the reports, the six warrants cover two active referees and officials working within the Greek Basketball Federation and KED, although the identities of some suspects have not yet been made public. The three detained suspects were brought to Athens Police Headquarters for processing. The suspects are expected to appear before a prosecutor on Thursday. Prosecutors will decide after taking statements whether to request pre-trial detention.
