Greek police have denied Turkish media reports that Murat Gulibrahimoglu was arrested in Greece in connection with an Istanbul municipal corruption investigation. Police sources said he was not in custody and that Interpol had not issued a Red Notice seeking his arrest for extradition. Turkish authorities accuse Gulibrahimoglu of involvement in a criminal organization, money laundering and tax offenses. Turkish media have described him as a fugitive and an alleged financial intermediary for jailed former Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu. Greek police said they first became aware of Gulibrahimoglu on July 14, when he applied for international protection at a reception center in Malakasa, north of Athens. He was released after filing the application, which remains under review. Greek authorities confirmed receiving extradition documents from Turkish authorities but denied that he was arrested. The latest status is that Gulibrahimoglu is not in Greek custody, and Greek police say no Interpol Red Notice has been issued.
