A 36-year-old groom and his 28-year-old best man were remanded in custody for two days after a dangerous drift stunt at the Ayios Athanasios roundabout in Limassol. Police say the video was filmed on Saturday during the groom’s wedding celebrations and posted online with the caption “just married”. It shows multiple vehicles occupying the roundabout while drifting, fireworks are set off, and a person is seen standing in the road. The best man was arrested on Monday, and the groom was arrested later the same day. Officers said the groom allegedly admitted during questioning that after the wedding they decided to drift in his racing car, driven by the best man. Investigators found the groom had blocked one entrance to the roundabout with a tow vehicle, while other entrances were blocked by vehicles belonging to other people involved in the celebrations. The groom also allegedly presented traffic police with a car body missing major parts including an engine, gearbox, steering wheel, seats, lights, tyres and braking system, and no windscreen. Police said the registration plates on the presented vehicle do not match the car shown in the video, and they believe it is a different car. The offences under investigation include dangerous driving, negligent and dangerous acts, blocking a public road without permission, public nuisance, driving without registration plates, and obstructing traffic. Officers have taken three statements and are expecting more from relatives and colleagues. They plan to search car yards and check CCTV footage, and are seeking two tow truck drivers for questioning. The latest status is that both suspects were remanded in custody for two days starting Tuesday, as police continue their investigation.
