Guardia Civil has detained two people and investigated another over an alleged scheme that used fraudulent municipal registrations in La Litera. Investigators say the group managed 26 illegal registrations of foreign nationals in three homes across two localities, after learning that unusually high numbers of foreign residents were being listed in one address despite the property not being able to host that many people. The alleged operation involved multiple properties. Agents found that a second home linked to one property owner, along with another residence belonging to a different owner, brought the total number of people registered to 26 during the period examined. Police allege the registered people did not live there effectively after obtaining the municipal paperwork. They also claim the group had a coordinated division of roles to repeatedly carry out the “paperwork” on the addresses they controlled. The scheme was allegedly paid monthly. Investigators say the victims had to pay a monetary fee to the criminal group to obtain the administrative steps needed to try to secure legal residence in Spain. On 4 November, officers from the Guardia Civil ROCA Team in the Barbastro Company detained two men aged 47 to 52 and investigated a third man aged between 47 and 52 in relation to alleged offences of facilitating irregular immigration and belonging to a criminal group. The case files were delivered to the Plaza de Monzon Court of First Instance no. 2. The detained men were released with charges, while the investigated man was ordered to report to the judicial authority when required.
