A traffic controller was badly beaten during roadworks on the Industrieweg in the Haarlem Waarderpolder on Tuesday afternoon, according to police. The 29-year-old suspect from IJmuiden was arrested on suspicion of grievous assault. Ambulance personnel treated the victim on scene and took him to hospital. Police say the controller was directing traffic when a driver tried to pass the work area. After the controller indicated it was not possible, the motorist allegedly assaulted him. Two ambulances were called to the scene to provide medical help. The police have taken the suspect into custody and are continuing their investigation. Officers are also asking witnesses to come forward and report what they saw.
