Armenia postpones hearings to extend Robert and Sedrak Kocharyan detention
Both were arrested in August, and abuse of office, bribery and laundering charges remain pending.
Armenian court hearings to extend the detention of former second president Robert Kocharyan and his son Sedrak Kocharyan have been postponed, with the court citing its workload.
Robert and Sedrak Kocharyan were arrested on 25 August 2026 as part of criminal proceedings investigated by the Anti-Corruption Committee. Sedrak was remanded in custody for two months on 26 August, while Robert was remanded on 27 August.
Robert Kocharyan has been charged with abuse of official powers, accepting a bribe on a particularly large scale and money laundering.
Sedrak Kocharyan faces charges of money laundering on a particularly large scale, as well as aiding abuse of official powers and accepting a bribe on a particularly large scale.
The latest court update leaves the detention extension matters unresolved for now.
