Hamburg police arrest suspected Hells Angels leader, find firearm and cash
Five men were detained after targeted checks linked to a wave of shootings.
Hamburg police detained a leading member of the Hells Angels during a targeted operation overnight on Saturday, the NDR reported.
The raid was carried out by the Soko Kinesis task force as part of a focus on illegal weapons in the city after more shootings were reported since the summer.
Plainclothes officers, uniformed police and the customs service carried out checks in the city centre, HafenCity and on St. Pauli. Officers stopped vehicles and detained several men.
In the Bugenhagenstraße, police stopped several black luxury cars. Officers found a loaded firearm on one of the occupants, described by the report as a leading Hells Angels member. Police also found a large amount of cash in the vehicles, with the exact sum still unknown.
In total, five men were arrested at that location. Police continued controls in HafenCity and around the Reeperbahn, where additional men were detained. Weapons and cash were also found during those stops.
Police said the operation was linked to recent acts of violence, and aimed at gathering information about those involved and their networks. The background was an accumulation of shootings in Hamburg since the summer, leaving multiple people injured and killed.
The investigation is ongoing, with the men arrested during the operation currently in custody.
