Coach Ján Pardavý loses job role after police seize driver license
He was left out of Slovakia’s staff for the German Cup, with the case still ongoing.
Hockey coach Ján Pardavý, 55, was left out of Slovakia’s national team coaching staff after police seized his driver’s licence over an incident at the Pohoda festival in July.
The police detention happened in July after the festival, held from 8 to 11 July at Trenčín airport. Pardavý later said he would face the information made public and confirmed he had failed to set an example as a long-time national team representative and coach.
In a statement, Pardavý said he had first handled the situation personally with those most affected, including his partner, family, Dukla Trenčín club leadership and representatives of the Slovak Ice Hockey Federation. He expressed regret for disappointing the people who trusted him and said that, as far as he knew, his conduct did not harm anyone’s health.
He also said he was prepared to take responsibility and fully cooperate with the police, adding that because the matter was still being handled by authorities, he would not comment further at that time.
When Slovakia selected its coaching team for the German Cup in Düsseldorf, scheduled for 5 to 8 November, Pardavý’s name did not appear on the list for the event. Head coach Vladimír Országh said Pardavý and fellow coach Todd Woodcroft both work in the same club, Dukla Trenčín, and the agreement allows only one of them for the first two national team events in November and December.
For the German Cup, Országh said Todd Woodcroft would serve as assistant, while Andrej Kmeč would replace the second role instead of Peter Frühauf. Országh also said the federation could fall back on another coach if Pardavý received a “suitable” offer.
Asked about Pardavý’s next steps with the national team, the federation said he currently does not have a contract with the Slovak Ice Hockey Federation, so his involvement was not under discussion while they focus on the current coaching set-up and preparation for upcoming events.
Pardavý’s driver’s licence case was still in progress after police seized it in July, and his future role remains uncertain.
