Police shut down illegal cigarette factory in Szamotuły, seizing 14 million
Twenty suspects were arrested after a production line and 8.5 tonnes of tobacco were found.
Police officers from the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Szamotuły district police unit shut down an illegal cigarette factory operating in rented storage halls in the Wołów district.
Officers seized more than 14 million cigarettes, over 8.5 tonnes of tobacco leaves, and a professional production line. Twenty people were detained, and a court ordered temporary detention for them.
The operation targeted a production setup housed in warehouse spaces. Investigators moved in to dismantle the site and recover the finished illegal cigarettes and raw tobacco.
According to police, if the counterfeit cigarettes had reached the market, losses to the State Treasury from unpaid taxes would have exceeded 31 million zlotys.
The suspects remain under court-ordered temporary detention as the investigation continues.
