Police stop suspected illegal cigarette trade costing 8.2 million zł
Nine men were detained in a probe into unmarked duty-free style sales, losses over 8.2 mln zł.
Nine men were detained in an investigation into suspected illegal production and trading of cigarettes in Poland, leaving the State Treasury with losses of more than 8.2 million zł.
Central Bureau of Investigation Police and Border Guard officers ran the case, targeting an organised criminal group allegedly operating between 2025 and 2026. The group is suspected of distributing cigarettes without Polish excise tax marks, with unpaid taxes driving the estimated 8.2 million zł loss.
Six of the suspects were placed in temporary detention.
The investigation concerns alleged organised activities involving the unlawful manufacture and distribution of cigarettes, and it was carried out as a coordinated operation by the CBŚP and Border Guard officers.
