Suspected arson in Anderlecht: a suspect is arrested
No injuries, but the building is declared uninhabitable after the night fire.
A suspected arson fire broke out in an occupied building in Anderlecht, and police have arrested a suspect shortly after the flames were brought under control.
The incident happened overnight from Monday to Tuesday on Rue des Goujons. Emergency services were called at 02:15, and firefighters say the fire was limited and extinguished quickly.
Police in the Midi zone, covering Anderlecht, Saint-Gilles and Forest, confirmed there were no injuries. However, the building is now uninhabitable due to the damage.
Firefighters checked for carbon monoxide in the building and ventilated the premises. The police said only the entrance door and the stairwell of the home suffered material damage, but the home was declared uninhabitable because of the impact.
It was quickly determined that the blaze was intentional. Soon after, police were able to apprehend a suspect.
The case remains under investigation, with authorities continuing their work following the arrest.
