International wanted man arrested in Albania and extradited to Azerbaijan
Elchin Abdulkhaligov faces charges over alleged large-scale embezzlement.
An internationally wanted Azerbaijani man has been detained in Albania and extradited to Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Justice press service said via APA.
Elchin Abdulkhaligov was placed on Interpol’s international wanted list by Azerbaijan, after authorities identified his whereabouts in Albania. He was arrested there, then handed over following a request by the Prosecutor General’s Office and negotiations.
The allegations date back to 2020, when Abdulkhaligov, working as a sales specialist at “GP Stock Feed” LLC, is accused of collecting cash payments totaling AZN 78,000 from distributors for the company’s treasury. Investigators say he used the funds for personal purposes.
He was charged under Article 179.3.2 of the Criminal Code, covering misappropriation or embezzlement on a large scale.
On October 29, officials from the Ministry of Justice’s Main Directorate for International Cooperation and the Penitentiary Service brought him to Azerbaijan. A court ordered his arrest, and he was placed in a pre-trial detention center.
