Police and partners across the world carried out nine actions targeting cybercrime during the week of 23 October 2026, including a major INTERPOL-coordinated operation against the spread of child abuse content via online messaging groups. The global crackdown disrupted an ecosystem tied to more than one billion malicious messages sent to over 75,000 organisations across 150 countries. In Europe and across Latin America, authorities from 17 countries arrested 95 suspects in the INTERPOL operation. The case focused on distributing child abuse material through messaging platforms. In the United States, a leader of YMCO, a network of “financial mules”, pleaded guilty. Prosecutors said the group helped pirates move funds out of the United States, using around 15,000 mules. The US Department of Justice also unveiled charges in a separate probe linked to North Korea. Fourteen people were indicted in a scheme involving fake remote IT jobs, with about 187 computers seized and more than 40 homes searched in Texas. The latest status of those US matters is that a YMCO leader has pleaded guilty, while the North Korea-linked defendants have been indicted. The international child abuse content operation is ongoing beyond the 95 arrests.
