Authorities raid suspected freight theft fraud network in Romania and Belgium
65 search warrants were executed, with 11 suspects arrested in Romania and five in Belgium.
Investigators have carried out 65 search warrants against a suspected criminal group accused of stealing the contents of freight shipments worth to the targeted companies, after allegedly hijacking transport and posing as a legitimate transport company.
During an action day, authorities apprehended 11 suspects in Romania and arrested 5 suspects in Belgium, as part of a joint investigation involving both countries.
Prosecutors said the group allegedly generated significant funds by hijacking shipments containing consumer goods and then taking the shipped items. The scheme is linked to the theft of about 70 freight shipments.
The case is being handled through a joint investigation set up at Eurojust between Belgian and Romanian authorities, with the suspected offences treated as fraud related to the transport of goods.
The operation forms part of an ongoing investigation, with suspects taken into custody following the searches as authorities continue their work into the alleged theft network.
