A construction entrepreneur from Fano, Davide Roscini, was arrested by police directly on board the Costa Smeralda cruise ship in Palermo. Roscini, 56, was due to serve more than 4 years in prison for recycling and receiving stolen goods, after a sentence totalling 4 years, 2 months and 13 days. The case also included a fine of 1,199,666 euros. The arrest followed an operation by the maritime border police in Palermo on 1 October, when officers boarded the vessel during navigation after investigative information led them to the wanted man. Roscini was identified as a fugitive from an arrest order issued by the prosecutor’s office of the court in Pesaro. Police said the man had moved to France more than 10 years ago, setting up life in Marseille. When he came aboard the cruise, the operation was triggered. With about 8,000 people on board, officers cordoned off the area where he was staying to prevent possible attempts to flee. Agents worked carefully to avoid causing alarm among passengers, in cooperation with the cruise company’s security staff. After confirming his presence, officers stopped him while the ship was still approaching Palermo. Roscini was in the company of his wife. On land, he was taken to the maritime border police offices in Palermo for photo and fingerprint identification. He was then transferred to the Lorusso Pagliarelli prison in Palermo.
