Knife attacker flees after stabbing in Vienna Favoritenstraße
Police investigate the incident and ask for tips after two people were injured.
A suspected knife attacker fled after stabbing a 33-year-old man in Vienna’s Favoritenstraße, injuring him in the back.
The attack happened on 20 October 2026 at 20:45 in the 10th district. During an argument, an as-yet unidentified man allegedly attacked the victim with a knife.
A 22-year-old man who said he tried to calm the dispute was also injured, cutting his finger. The suspected attacker then escaped with two companions towards Keplerplatz.
Witnesses described the suspect as a man, between 18 and 22 years old, with curly hair and dressed in black. Police say he is “possibly Syrian.”
Officers from the police inspection Sibeliusstraße provided first care to the 33-year-old until the arrival of the emergency ambulance. Paramedics then took over and brought the seriously injured man to the shock room of a hospital.
Police launched an immediate manhunt, but it was unsuccessful. Investigators later found that the physical confrontation may have stemmed from a dispute from the past. The State Criminal Police Office for Vienna, South unit, is handling the further investigation.
Police are asking for information about the suspect’s identity or whereabouts, including anonymous tips, to the State Criminal Police Office for Vienna, South unit, by phone at 01-31310-57800.
