Kyiv police accuse man who killed guard with metal pipe
Suspect, 47, is held on a murder charge carrying up to 15 years.
Kyiv police detained a man suspected of killing a 57-year-old guard at a sports base, after allegedly beating him with a metal pipe.
Police say the attack happened in the Dnipro district. The 47-year-old suspect tried to enter a closed area of a sports facility, but a guard refused him access.
The man then went to another entrance, where he saw a different guard sitting outside. Believing it was the person who denied him entry, he grabbed a metal pipe and repeatedly struck the guard on the head.
Investigators say he continued beating the man even after he fell to the ground. The guard died at the scene from the injuries.
Authorities arrested the suspect under Article 208 of Ukraine’s Criminal Procedure Code and seized the weapon.
Prosecutors later informed him of suspicion of intentional homicide under Part 1 of Article 115 of the Criminal Code. The charge carries a penalty of up to 15 years in prison, and a court ordered the suspect held in custody.
