Police detained a man suspected of stealing a passenger’s bag at Kyiv’s metro station “Vokzalna”. Officers said the theft targeted a 70-year-old woman who had fallen asleep on a platform bench. Investigators allege the bag contained two mobile phones and money. The suspect allegedly took the bag, walked away, and then transferred it to his own belongings. The victim reported the disappearance of her bag to police on duty at the station. Officers learned she had been waiting for a train when she fell asleep and left her property nearby. Metro police investigators identified the suspect and detained him at the same station under Article 208 of Ukraine’s Criminal Procedure Code. The police seized the victim’s property from the detained man, which will be returned to its owner. Prosecutors charged him with theft committed under martial law, citing part 4 of Article 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The charge carries a penalty of up to eight years in prison. The case follows an earlier allegation in October involving the same man, who was suspected of stealing a phone from a sleeping metro passenger at “Vydubychy”.
