A 36-year-old woman died after being hit by a car in Leeds following a police chase, and a 19-year-old man has now been charged. The incident happened on Beckett Street in Harehills on the morning of Thursday, October 29, when a black Vauxhall Corsa failed to stop for officers and a police pursuit was authorised. Officers say the vehicle struck the pedestrian at about 9.50am before fleeing the scene. The car was later found abandoned on Nippet Lane. The woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries but died. Harry Gyamsie-Perah, of Coldcotes Garth, Leeds, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, using a motor vehicle on a road without third party insurance, failing to stop after a road accident, and driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence. Police believe two other people were in the vehicle at the time of the collision and are urging any occupants to come forward. Detectives are also continuing to appeal for witnesses and anyone with relevant dashcam footage to contact the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, quoting crime reference 13260615046. The Independent Office for Police Conduct is investigating the circumstances of the police pursuit. Gyamsie-Perah appeared at Leeds Magistrates' Court and was remanded in custody to appear at Leeds Crown Court on November 27.
