Police arrest 43-year-old in Limassol over alleged premeditated murder kidnapping
A 61-year-old woman was reported missing on 23 October, and the suspect faces six days’ custody pending investigation.
A 43-year-old man was arrested in Limassol after police linked him to a suspected kidnapping with the aim of premeditated murder of a 61-year-old woman.
Police said the arrest followed a court warrant issued to help with questioning. The man is expected to be taken before Limassol District Court, where prosecutors will seek an order for his continued detention.
The woman was reported missing on 28 October 2026 by a friend. Police said she had been absent from her home in Limassol since 23 October, and that her mobile phone remained off.
At court, the suspect was also presented over the charge of kidnapping with intent to murder. The prosecution said there were strong indications the 61-year-old is no longer alive. Investigators told the court that since 21 October there had been no contact with her relatives, a dog at her home was found underfed, and the car of the missing woman had been left abandoned since then. They also said she did not show up for a key work appointment and had not left Cyprus or gone to the occupied areas.
Police said they found the 43-year-old after locating him at the airport, where he had a planned trip to leave Cyprus. Officers asked him to follow them, and a warrant for his arrest was issued. Investigators told the court that he bought airline tickets at 05:00 on 29 October, only hours after the disappearance was publicised in the media.
A neighbour testified in court, saying he heard a scream from the suspect’s home on an unspecified day and saw the suspect’s vehicle at the scene. Surveillance cameras were also mentioned, showing the man parking in reverse at the entrance and placing an unspecified item in the boot.
Police said the investigation is ongoing, including expected examination of the suspect’s vehicle and moves to obtain details of the missing woman’s bank accounts to determine whether any withdrawals were made.
