Police in the Lisbon area detained a 22-year-old man after he allegedly tried to escape a road check while driving with forged registration plates. On 4 November, the Territorial Command of Lisbon, via the Malveira Territorial Post, carried out a traffic enforcement operation in the municipality of Mafra. During the stop, the driver reportedly suddenly resumed driving and fled to avoid inspection. Officers later intercepted the vehicle. The man abandoned the car and ran away on foot, but was caught about 200 metres later. Investigators then found that the car was registered in France and that it was allegedly being driven using Portuguese licence plates that police said were false. They also reported that the suspect did not have a legal driving licence. As a result of the action, officers seized the vehicle and several forged registration plates found in the car’s boot. The man was then taken into custody as an accused person, and the facts were communicated to the Judicial Court of Mafra.
