Four suspected burglars were arrested after a break-in at a weapons shop in Mägenwil, police said. The incident happened on Sunday morning, 25 October 2026, shortly after 2.30 a.m. in the Hintermättlistrasse area. The suspects forced their way into the shop and stole multiple firearms. As the first patrols arrived, the group had already fled. Officers spotted a suspicious Audi Q5 with French control plates, and the driver initially disappeared after heading towards Mellingen. Around 3.30 a.m., police saw the car again on the A3 motorway and the driver continued the escape at high speed towards Basel, before switching to the A18. Several patrols from different cantons joined the pursuit. The chase ended near Münchenstein in Basel-Landschaft with a self-inflicted accident. Police arrested four people, aged 16, 19, 20 and 21. All four are French citizens, police added. Basel-Landschaft police are investigating the circumstances of the crash, while Aargau police handle the burglary investigation. The public prosecutor’s office and the youth prosecutor have opened criminal proceedings. The four suspects are in custody, and investigations are ongoing.
