A 27-year-old man was detained in Mafra after GNR officers stopped a vehicle during a road patrol and found a weapon inside. The arrest happened on 9 October, when the military approached the car in the council of Mafra, identified the driver, and located a knife in the vehicle. The driver was detained in flagrante delito. The GNR said the suspect was then constituted as an accused, and the case was sent to the Judicial Court of the Lisbon West Comarca in Mafra. Under the Arms and Ammunition Legal Regime, anyone who, without proper authorization, keeps, transports, stores, buys, or acquires a weapon covered by article 86 of the law commits the crime of possession of a prohibited weapon. The GNR also noted that possessing an unregistered or unreported weapon, when registration is legally required, is likewise covered by illegal weapon possession.
