Police trace syndicate behind 521kg syabu seizure in Laos
Learjet from Subang triggered arrests of 13 people after the Luang Prabang haul.
Malaysian police have traced a syndicate behind a 521-kilogram crystal meth seizure in Laos, after the drugs were found on a private Learjet that arrived from Subang.
The Royal Malaysia Police said Lao authorities seized the syabu at Luang Prabang International Airport on October 1 and detained 13 people to help investigations.
Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said investigators recorded statements from witnesses, including a Malaysian broker who arranged the aircraft charter.
Police said the Learjet had been chartered by a 54-year-old Filipino man, a former pilot with a drug-related criminal record in his home country. Investigators also identified a 51-year-old Filipino woman as the syndicate coordinator.
The case is being handled by the NCID Special Investigation Unit under Sections 34 and 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which cover abetment or preparation in Malaysia for drug trafficking offences committed abroad. Investigators are working with Malaysia’s Foreign Ministry and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency to obtain further information.
Following the Laos seizure, police arrested the local man who owned the private jet during a raid at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang on October 7.
Malaysia’s NCID said anyone with information about drug-related activities can contact its hotline at 012-208 7222. The investigation remains ongoing.
