Court denies bail for three accused after alleged rental dispute assault in Malta
All three men were remanded in custody after pleading not guilty.
A Maltese court denied bail for three men accused of sexually assaulting a woman inside an apartment in Msida after an argument over a rental agreement.
The men, Baljinder Singh, 32, Kulveer Singh, 26, and Dumanpreet Singh, 29, all appeared in court after pleading not guilty.
The alleged incident took place on 14 July 2026 at an apartment in Msida. The woman later filed a report with police on 19 July, identifying the three accused and saying the dispute started when one of the men argued with her about the apartment rental agreement.
She told investigators that, after the argument, one of the accused insulted her before the men entered her bedroom and touched her intimately over her clothing.
Prosecutors charged the three men with committing a non-consensual sexual act, unlawfully detaining the woman, and threatening or insulting her. Arrest warrants were obtained after the initial police bail period. The men had been released on police bail pending further investigations, but they were arrested at the Sliema police station on Sunday ahead of their arraignment.
When the defence asked for bail, the prosecution opposed the request because the alleged victim had not yet testified. Duty Magistrate Nadine Sant Lia ordered that all three men be remanded in custody. A publication ban was imposed covering the identity of the alleged victim.
Inspector Joseph Buhagiar prosecuted alongside Attorney General lawyer Angele Vella, while lawyer Sarah Mallia represented the accused. The men remain in custody following the court’s bail refusal.
