Police say the attacker was neutralized during the early-morning incident.
A man from Bela Reka has been arrested after an alleged attack outside the Israeli embassy in Belgrade, during which a police officer was attacked with two knives.
The incident happened around 00:15. The suspected attacker allegedly struck a member of the Gendarmerie with two knives while the officer was securing the embassy and later managed to neutralize him.
According to Serbia’s Ministry of Interior, the attack in Belgrade was characterized as terrorism. The suspect has been identified as D.N. from Bela Reka, near Šabac.
Police say they had previously been monitoring the man due to activity on social media. After the incident, the investigation was launched and evidence is being collected at the scene. Authorities also ordered an increase in the security threat level for terrorism and boosted police presence at key locations across Belgrade.
The Ministry of Interior also said the suspect had reportedly been deported from Germany because of radical Islamist posts on social networks, based on unofficial information. Investigators are now working to determine the motives and whether there are any links to other people.
